Brothers and Sisters of Local 602. We are on day 2 and tomorrow the team members from GA will be coming back. I would like to thank all of you that have given us suggestions on things to make certain things better. The shop committee has brought up several things as well. 3rd shift will go through the same orientation process that the day shift went through. Labor should be getting that return to work schedule out by Thursday. All vacations for 3rd shift this week will be canceled. We will continue to update all of you with new information as we get it. Please continue to be safe to all of us that are in the plant as well as all of you still at home.

    Thank you,

    MIOSHA Announcement

COVID-19 Workplace Guidelines Presentations and YouTube Videos for Employers and Employees

MIOSHA’s Consultation Education and Training (CET) Division has developed COVID-19 Workplace Guidelines to provide employers and employees with helpful information, related to preventing and controlling COVID-19 exposure in the workplace. This information was developed based on guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Governor's Executive Orders on reopening industries. Employers should continue to review CDC and OSHA websites, to ensure their workplace policies and procedures are based on the most up-to-date information, as information related to COVID-19 is changing rapidly.

Below are links to these new MIOSHA resources:

In addition to the COVID-19 Workplace Guidelines presentations and videos, developed by MIOSHA CET, construction and manufacturing employers are encouraged to review the information provided by the Dept. of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) regarding industry best practices. This industry best practice guidance information can be found on LEO’s website.

The governor’s order allowed manufacturing workers to resume work on Monday, May 11, as part of her MI Safe Start Plan.

Some of the manufacturing industry specific requirements, contained with EO 2020-77 include:

    • conducting a daily entry screening protocol for workers and everyone else entering the facility,
    • providing a questionnaire covering symptoms and exposure to people with possible COVID-19,
    • temperature screening as soon as no-touch thermometers can be obtained,
    • creating dedicated entry points at every facility,
    • suspending entry of all non-essential in-person visits, including tours, and
    • training workers on how COVID-19 is transmitted from person to person, signs and symptoms of COVID-19, steps workers must take to notify the business or operation of signs and symptoms of COVID-19 (or suspected or confirmed diagnosis), and the use of personal protective equipment.

Under EO 2020-77, all manufacturers must require masks to be worn when workers cannot consistently maintain six feet of separation from others, and consider face shields for those who cannot consistently maintain three feet of separation from other workers.

If you need further information, call 855-SAFEC19 (855-723-3219). To request consultation, education and training services, call the MIOSHA CET Division at 517-284-7720.

    LDT – Labor Relations

If you choose not to return to work due to Covid-19 concerns you will no longer be eligible for Unemployment Benefits either.

    From management 5-14 5:20pm

Q: I just don’t feel comfortable coming back to work. What can I do?

A: COVID-19 has impacted all of us in different ways and everyone’s personal situation is unique to that individual. The answer to these questions is that there is no one size fits all solution. Our approach in these situations in the United States is influenced by several factors: state and federal regulations, the provisions in our labor agreements, company policy and a recognition that the global pandemic is unprecedented. Our commitment is that we want to be fair, consistent and straightforward about the options people have, so they can make the right decision for their situation. Options vary by situation, and employees should always speak with their leader to have a conversation about options that may exist. Options include vacation, personal leaves, and FMLA. If you have a situation that prevents you from returning to work when you are recalled, we suggest you contact your plant HR/LR team to discuss your personal situation. The process for leaves of absences is further clarified in the attachments.

Email this information to Labor Relations at LDTEmployment@gm.com.

Labor Relations will evaluate the request and communicate the disposition to the employee and their Department.

    5-8-2020

Brothers and Sisters of Local 602. I have been in meetings all day and have gotten some information and shared it with the shop committee and the districts. Now we would like to share what we know at this point with all of you. 1st, next week will be voluntary for the trades folks on all 3 shifts, TL's in body shop and paint specialists. If you don't want to work, you will stay on unemployment. 2nd, 1st shift will come back on the 18th of May and 3rd shift will come back on Tuesday May 26th because of the Holiday. First shift schedule will be put out on Monday the 11th of May. Management is finalizing details for body, paint and Ga and we will get that out on Monday the 11th. 3rd, anyone who wants to take a leave because they do not feel safe coming back right now for any reason will get a leave. The options and process will also be out Monday the 11th and I will say this - you will not have to come to the plant to put this request in, it will be done through an email process with labor. They are just finalizing that process as well. 4th, they will be making a video of the process of coming into the plant when you come back to work on the 18th and 26th and will put that out Monday the 11th. 5th, if you want a face shield to put on over your mask and glasses they will have them as well. 6th, next week someone from the company, UAW and the state will be coming into our plant to make sure our plant meets their requirements to run. 7th, they will have the clips to use with your face mask so the strings are not tight around your ears all day.8th, they will be letting the membership know when to come back and who comes back and when. All temps will be returning on the shift they where working when we where laid off as of today. If you are not sure of the shift you are to come back on after they make the announcement, get a hold of labor. If you cant reach them try myself or someone in the union. Don't call the hall because they will not know. 9th, the first week will be a slow start up. When we get more information we will get it out to all of you. Please be patient, this stuff changes by the minute. Please continue to be safe.

    Thank you,
    Todd Trout, Local 602 Chairman

    5-7-20

Brothers and Sisters of Local 602. I just got a call from the plant manager. The company will now be releasing their statement at 9 am tomorrow. The plant managers will be sharing this information with all the chairman’s in the morning. I will share it with the shop committee and districts as I said earlier, then we will get it out to all of you. As I said before, with social media you probably will see it before we have a chance to get it out. The company is putting out more answers to questions tonight they said. Theses questions they put out by the company are questions that have been asked from all plants. Because a lot of them are the same from plant to plant,  they want to make sure they give the same answer to everyone. We will still be meeting Monday with our labor staff to go over all of our members questions and get them answers. If some of the questions are the same as other plants you probably will see the answers on a daily basis from the company. We will continue to give updates as we get them. Please continue to be safe.

    Thank you,
    Todd Trout, Local 602 Chairman

    5-7-20

Brothers and Sisters of Local 602. We all now know what the governor has said about manufacturing being able to go back to work Monday. What that means for our plant. I have already been in touch with the plant manager and they are waiting on Detroit to call them and let them know what it means as far as going back to work at our plant. The company is supposed to be putting out a statement around 5pm. As soon as the plant manager calls me I will be getting with the shop committee and the districts because like you, we are all at home. Then we will get what we have been told out to all of you. As you know with social media The company will have stuff out before we even get our call, but we will communicate what we get as of tonight. Please be safe.

    Thank you,

    Todd Trout, Local 602 Chairman

    5-6-2020

Brothers and Sisters of Local 602. The shop committee will be meeting with the plant manager and his staff on Monday morning to talk about your questions and safety items. We were to have a zoom call with him and his staff on Friday afternoon, but he had another obligation to work on for the plant before he could meet with us .We will communicate new details Monday. The plant manager will also be doing a video of the new safety protocols that everyone will have to go through on Monday as well and that will be put out for all our members to see so you have a visual of what we will have to do everyday before we enter the plant. We will keep you updated as we get information for all of you. Please continue to be safe.

    Thank you,
    Todd Trout, Local 602 Chairman

    5-5-2020

Brothers and Sisters of Local 602. We just received a phone call letting us know GM is putting out a statement that they are gearing their assembly plants up for a May 18 production start date like other big 3 plants have. We will continue to share updates. More to come tomorrow after we get more information about our plant. Please stay safe.

    Thank you,
    Todd Trout, Local 602 Chairman

    From HCC 4-29

UAW Local 602 Brothers and Sisters, with the recent shutdown of LDT due to the Coronavirus, there are naturally many questions and concerns our members have. We will try to keep you as up to date with the newest confirmed information as best we can. Please understand that things are changing quickly, so be sure to check here often for the latest official updates.

Brothers and Sisters of Local 602. As of now this is what we know. This will be a temporary layoff. We do not know the date we will return as of right now. Everyone will be paid sub pay and unemployment who qualifies. We will have a total of 12 trades working 6 pipe fitters and 6 electricians. The 6 highest seniority in each trade will be working. There also will be 2 paint specialists also working and they will be the 2 highest seniority as well. I will continue to put out more information as I receive it from labor. Please be patient as things change by the hour.

Thank you, Todd Trout. Shop Chairman Local 602.

Here is what we offiicially know at this time.

    • Labor announced that the start of 3 shifts at LDT will be delayed. No more information is currently available as to timeframe
    • Labor will be canceling everyone’s vacation week by week that we are off so no one has any issues with unemployment and sub pay.
    • Those folks with less than 1 year of seniority who do not qualify for sub pay, and temps who qualify will only receive unemployment.
    • GM will file unemployment for everyone.
    • Those members who are in self quarantine will go to lay off status just like the rest of the membership starting Monday. We have no one as of now test positive in our plant.
    • For all temporary employees who are eligible for healthcare coverage right now, GM is going to continue your insurance through the end of April.
    • The labor department has agreed to allow 1 benefit rep to work. Our rep will work out of our local hall. The benefits rep will be available by phone only between 7-4 at (517) 372-4626, ext 2
    • Medical will be open Monday - Friday from 6:30am-3pm for those returning from sick leave.
